Sachsen-Anhalt Saxony-Anhalt (English)
Geography
Saxony-Anhalt is located in east-central Germany and borders the states of Brandenburg in the east, Saxony in the southeast, Thuringia in the southwest and Lower Saxony in the west. Saxony-Anhalt should not be confused with Saxony or Lower Saxony, which are also German states.
The main waterways are the the Elbe and Saale Rivers as well as Elbe-Havel channel and the Mittellland channel.
The Harz mountains are located in the south-west, part of the Harz National Park. The highest mountain of the Harz (and of Northern Germany) is Brocken.
